Surround Sounds is a new label formed by Richard Bloor and Joe Williams. The mission behind the label is to provide a regualar stream of cool, deep, funky club tunes that may be tribal, percussive, progressive, techy or more soulful. Quality, consistent and DJ friendly releases are guaranteed.
Richard and Joe had worked in the music industry independently for many years before Richard invited Joe in as a partner of '10 Kilo'. That was at the start of 1999 when 10 Kilo was a new, fresh label capturing the essence of London's Nu Skool Breaks and tech-house scenes. Joe Brought to the label a good set of ears and his 'Proper Filthy Naughty' (PFN) act (alias of 'The Light'). Two storming breakbeat anthems came in 'Stitch Up' and 'Put Your Earphones On'. The flipside for Earphones was 'Philter', a mix between tech and prog house. It became a huge club classic played (and licensed for mixed comps) by Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren and Dave Seaman. The list of DJ's that got behind the tune is endless. After this release a decision was made not to dilute what 10 Kilo had achieved but to open another avenue for music heading to the bigger dancefloors.
And so came Surround Sounds. Joe and Ronnie (of The Light) are in-house producers for the label and will both be releasing tracks for Surround Sounds. Ronnie's solo project is called 'Kodiak' and was the first release on the label. Joe's first solo outing is called 'Junk' and is the fourth single to be released. The other current act to watch out for on this label is Ticon from Sweden and look out for some excellent trax from new signing 'Red Moon'. Lots of hot new talent for 2001.
September 3rd 2001 sees the release of the first compilation, 'SURROUNDED' which will feature the first few singles and a couple of surprises ... one being the first release of PFN vs. The Light's version of Renegade Soundwave's 'Phantom' (a massive club hit previously unavailable - Cool Cuts No. 3, Buzz No. 4, Essential New Tune, Boy George's and Judge Jules' tune of the week and hammered by all the big names). The album is mixed by Kodiak.
